Sterling Silver is a great choice for those seeking a high-quality material that requires minimal maintenance. Silver is waterproof, sweat proof, and saltwater proof. There is little to no upkeep when caring for silver, and if it does begin to tarnish it typically only requires a quick wash with soap and water. This makes it a great option for those who don't want to worry about the condition of their jewelry on a regular basis.
In this blog post, I will share with you the most simple tips, because when we pay for a high quality material like sterling silver, we want it to last forever, and it will. The best thing about sterling silver is that it only looks better with age, and most people enjoy the natural patina it gains over the years. We have found that Silver tarnishes most with lack of wear, like sitting in a jewelry box etc. Showering with your silver and constant wear is the best thing for it.
For the OCD types: Cleaning your silver jewelry:
If you feel as if your silver is looking a little dull or tarnished there are simple and effective methods to bring it back to life. My personal favorite way of cleaning silver is using Sunshine Cloths. Sunshine Cloths are convenient and easily remove tarnish from metals. They are long lasting and affordable. One cloth can last one person years and years. Here is a link to Sunshine Cloths on Amazon:
Sunshine Cloth; 3 pack. An alternative to the sunshine cloths would be a quick clean using dish soap and warm water.
A common misconception is that silver tarnishes when wet. This is not true, however it is best to avoid heavily chlorinated pools or hot tubs (most hotels). If you accidentally wear your silver in chlorinated water its not the end of the world. Rinse the jewelry with fresh water as quickly as possible to avoid it turning black.
Sterling Silver jewelry is a long lasting investment and will look as new as you would like it to if you follow these few simple tips!
